Grand Theft Auto Advance, published by Rockstar Games and developed by Digital Eclipse, is an action-adventure game for the Game Boy Advance. Released on October 26, 2004, the game offers a high-quality experience for fans of the Grand Theft Auto series, combining classic gameplay with new elements to create a vibrant Liberty City world.
Classic but engaging gameplay
Grand Theft Auto Advance brings players back to the top-down perspective, the style that appeared in the first two games in the series: Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2. However, the game still retains unique features from later three-dimensional versions, such as the head-up display, vehicle-based side missions (such as Vigilante or Paramedic), and a rich weapon system.
Although originally intended to be a port of Grand Theft Auto III, GTA Advance is a prequel, set in Liberty City in 2000, a year before the events of Grand Theft Auto III. Players will rediscover familiar locations, but with completely new street layouts, secret locations, and missions, giving a fresh feel to those familiar with the city.
Thrilling storyline and new characters
In Grand Theft Auto Advance, players take on the role of Mike, a petty criminal who wants to give up his life of crime and leave Liberty City. However, his plans are disrupted when his best friend and boss, Vinnie, is killed in a car bomb explosion. From there, Mike begins a journey of revenge and searches for the person who framed Vinnie, leading him to be drawn into a war with the city’s criminal gangs and mafia.
Throughout his journey, Mike teams up with new and familiar characters, such as 8-Ball, Asuka from the Yakuza, and King Courtney of the Yardie gang. New characters such as Cisco, the leader of the Colombian Cartel, and Yuka, Asuka’s niece, also bring many surprises to the story. Each step of Mike’s journey brings him closer to the truth, with dramatic gunfights and dark conspiracies gradually revealed.
Experience the challenging world of Liberty City
Players will explore Liberty City with all three famous islands from Grand Theft Auto III, but redesigned to suit the top-down perspective. Complex elements such as tunnels and railway systems have been removed, but in return, the game offers a simpler and more accessible experience on the Game Boy Advance.
The missions in the game require players to complete challenging missions, from tracking down enemies, performing dangerous gunfights, to participating in high-speed racing through the narrow streets of Liberty City. In addition, players will also have to face major criminal gangs such as Yardie and Cartel, as well as underground plots from the Mafia.
