Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX is a remake of the classic game Contra III: The Alien Wars, released on the Game Boy Advance system in 2002 by Konami. Carrying the spirit of the legendary Contra series, the game not only recreates the tense and challenging moments, but also improves to be more suitable for the mobile platform.

Story and Setting

In Contra Advance, players continue to play as soldiers Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, confronting the brutal alien invasion force that threatens life on Earth. The story is built on the foundation of fierce battles, where you have to overcome a series of trap-filled levels, fight legions of monsters and face giant bosses to protect humanity.

Gameplay – A Blend of Classic and Innovative

Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX retains the Contra series’ signature fast-scrolling, high-speed gameplay. However, some changes have been made to accommodate the Game Boy Advance’s capabilities, resulting in a smoother experience for players.

  • Weapon Mechanics Changes: Players are no longer able to carry two weapons at once. Instead, when picking up a new weapon, the old weapon will fall to the ground, allowing you to go back and pick it up if needed. This requires calculation and strategy in choosing weapons.
  • Target Lock: A feature inspired by Contra: Shattered Soldier, allowing players to lock their firing direction and move freely, increasing flexibility in combat phases.
  • Stage Changes: The two top-down stages (Stage 2 and Stage 5) from the SNES version have been replaced with the side-scrolling stages from Contra: Hard Corps, bringing a new feeling while still being challenging.
  • Difficulty: This version only has two difficulty levels: Novice and Normal. Novice mode is designed to be easier, but will shorten the game at Stage 4, providing a suitable option for new players.
  • Password feature: For the first time, players can use passwords to continue from specific levels, reducing the pressure of completing the entire game in one go.
  • 2-player mode: Although two-player play is supported via the Game Boy Advance Link Cable, both players need to have a copy of the game, and this mode does not support continuing from higher levels.

Images and Sounds

Despite being a mobile remake, Contra Advance still retains excellent graphics and sound quality. The detailed backgrounds, eye-catching explosion effects, and dramatic music recall classic moments from the Contra series.

Special Features

Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX offers a familiar yet refreshing experience with improvements in gameplay and design. The game is a great choice for those who love a mix of tense action and smart strategy.

  • Engaging Storyline: Connects to the classic Contra setting.
  • Variety of gameplay: The combination of side-scrolling levels and target locking feature makes the difference.
  • Highly challenging: Maintains the tough spirit of Contra, but adds a Novice mode for new players.

Conclude

Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX is an action game that cannot be missed for fans of the Contra series. With a balance between classic elements and innovative improvements, the game brings a feeling of both familiarity and freshness, bringing players back to tense and emotional battles.

Get ready to jump into the battle, destroy the enemy and protect the Earth!
